Notes from the CiderMaker: Newtown Pippin, or Albemarle Pippin as we know it locally, produces an excellent fruit-forward cider. Even thought the apple originated in New York, it became a cash crop for Virginians after winning popularity with Queen Victoria in the 1800s. It is often a favorite of our local winemakers as it compares favorably with white wines, such as Chardonnay.
Flavor: Crisp minerality with notes of green apple, birch and black tea.
